The Islanders went 1-2-0 against Ottawa last season, dropping the last contest 5-3 at Nassau Coliseum. Josh Bailey (one goal, one assist) and Kyle Okposo (two assists) each had multi-point efforts as the Islanders took a 3-1 lead to the second intermission. Lubomir Visnovsky scored on the power play and the Islanders outshot the Senators 29-23, but four unanswered Senators goals in the third period sealed the contest. The teams will meet two more times in April.

Senators player to watch
Erik Karlsson - Defenseman

Karlsson is tied for the league lead among defensemen with 11 points (three goals, eight assists), including nine points in his last seven games. After missing most of the 2012-13 campaign to injury, the Landsbro, Sweden native has averaged 27:40 of ice time this season, good for third in the NHL. Karlsson took home the Norris Trophy, awarded to the league's top defenseman, after the 2011-12 season.

• Frans Nielsen is tied for seventh in the NHL scoring race with 15 points (7g/8a). John Tavares is tied for 13th with 13 points (4g/9a).
• Newly-acquired left wing Thomas Vanek will play inhis 600th NHL game tonight. In 599 career NHL games (598 with Buffalo), Vanek has 497 points (254 goals, 243 assists).
• The Islanders have scored at least two goals in every game this season. Chicago and St. Louis are the only other teams to have done so.
