The Islanders beat the Kings 2-1 in overtime on Feb. 11, 2012, the only meeting between the teams in the past two seasons. Mart Streit skated through four Kings in overtime before backhanding the winner past Jonathan Quick. Both teams tried to grind each other down, combining for 89 hits (48-41 Isles) over 61 minutes. Evgeni Nabokov made 34 saves for the win.

Kings player to watch
Mike Richards - Center

Mike Richards is having a great start to his third season in Los Angeles. The 28-year-old center is tied with Anze Kopitar for the team lead in points (17), he is currently riding a five-game point streak (3g/6a) and has 12 points in his last nine games. When Richards records a point, the Kings are 49-11-10 all-time and 8-3-0 this season.
 
 
Islanders Storylines
Two at Home: The Islanders have won two straight games at Nassau Coliseum, both by a 3-1 margin. They’ve also beat the Kings twice in their last two meetings at home.
JT Heating Up: John Tavares has taken over the Isles scoring lead with some stellar play in November. Tavares has five points (1g/4a) in his last three games and nine (4g/5a) in seven games this month.
• 20-20-20: Tavares (22), Nielsen (21) and Okposo (20) make the Isles the only NHL team with three players with at least 20 points.
