Morning Skate Updates - Islanders vs. Kings 11\/14\/13
Updates from the Isles morning skate at Nassau Coliseum
The Islanders look for their third straight win at Nassau Coliseum when they host the 2012 Stanley Cup champion LA Kings tonight at 7 p.m. The Islanders won the last two meetings with the Kings at the Coliseum, but haven’t played them since a 2-1 overtime win in February 2012. Below are some news, pictures, and quotes from today’s morning skate.

Same Lineup: Head coach Jack Capuano announced he was sticking with the same lineup from Tuesday’s win. Which means…

Tavares In: John Tavares will play tonight against the Kings. The captain fell awkwardly into the boards during Tuesday’s win and left briefly, but feels good enough to play tonight.

“I took the day off yesterday and tried to take care of it,” Tavares said citing ‘good maintenance.’ “I feel good to play and feel that I can contribute and play on the level I want to play.”

Three for Poulin:
Kevin Poulin starts his third game in a row for the Islanders. Poulin is 2-2 in his last four starts and has allowed seven goals during that span, or 1.75 goals per game.

“We like the competitiveness, the aggressiveness and the way that he’s playing,” Capuano said. “Kevin is just in a position right where in his last few starts he’s looked pretty good and we’re going to ride him.”

Vanek Out: Thomas Vanek will miss a third straight game with an upper-body injury. Vanek skated this morning, but is still listed as day-to-day.

Kings Note – No Quick: Kings starting goaltender Jonathan Quick left Tuesday’s game with a lower-body injury and flew back to Los Angeles to be evaluated. It is expected that Ben Scrivens will tend the Kings net tonight.

From the Coach: “I’ve always said (Poulin) has a little swagger and attitude about him and I think you have to have that when you’re the last line of defense. The fact is he’s got a few starts and he has to realize it’s deserved, but it’s up to him now to continue to play well.”
