The Islanders took points in every game vs. the Leafs last season, going 2-0-1 in three games. The Isles won both meetings in Toronto (7-4, 5-3), overcoming early deficits and scoring at least five goals in each win. They lost the lone matchup at Nassau Coliseum 5-4 in overtime, but ultimately took five of six points from the buds last season.

Maple Leafs player to watch
James van Riemsdyk - Left Wing

Van Riemsdyk enters the game tied for second in Leafs scoring with 15 points (9g/6a) through 18 games this season. The Leafs are currently understaffed due to injuries and suspensions, but the streaky winger remains a top threat. Van Riemsdyk had two goals in a 4-2 win over Buffalo on Saturday, busting out of a five-game slump. 
 
Islanders Storylines
Poulin: Kevin Poulin assumes the starter’s role for the Isles in wake of a groin injury to Evgeni Nabokov. The 23-year-old has wins over the Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins and Nashville Predators this season.
Tavares: John Tavares is second in league scoring with 25 points (9g/16a) and is only one point shy of the league lead. The Islanders captain has eight points (2g/6a) on his current five-game point streak.
• Falling Leafs: Leafs' centers Tyler Bozak (hamstring), David Bolland (ankle) and Nazem Kadri (suspension) are all out for tonight’s contest.
Wins in Toronto: The Isles have won three straight in Toronto, scoring at least five goals in each win.
