A late second-period breakdown proved costly as the Islanders lost 5-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks Dec. 9 at Honda Center. The score was tied 2-2 with a minute to go in the middle frame, but Cam Fowler and Corey Perry scored 31 seconds apart giving Anaheim a 4-2 lead. Perry finished the game with two goals, while Daniel Winnik (three assists) and Fowler (one goal, two assists) each had three points. John Tavares and Thomas Vanek scored for the Islanders in the loss.

Ducks player to watch
Corey Perry - Right Wing

Corey Perry makes up one half of the Ducks dynamic duo, skating alongside center Ryan Getzlaf. Perry, a former 50-goal scorer, is the Ducks’ top goal-scoring threat and sits third in the league with 22 goals through 37 games this season. Couple the 22 tallies with 15 assists and Perry is in ninth in league scoring, one point behind John Tavares. The 2010-11 Hart Trophy winner plays with an edge, and racked up over 100 PIMs in his last five full seasons, plus 72 in 44 games last season. Perry scored twice in the teams’ previous meeting on Dec. 9.
