|Sharks player to watch
Joe Thornton - Center
Joe Thornton is thriving again and is one of the NHL’s top playmakers. “Jumbo” Joe is second in the league with 27 assists and leads the Sharks with 32 points in 30 games. If Thornton keeps up his current scoring pace, he’ll surpass the point-per-game mark for the first time since the 2009-10 season. The Sharks captain had an eight-game point streak (3g/7a) end Sunday in Minnesota.
•Tavares and Vanek: John Tavares and Thomas Vanek each had a goal and an assist in Monday’s loss to Anaheim. Tavares has 34 points (12g/22a) this season while Vanek has 11 points (5g/6a) in 15 games with the Islanders.
•Shark Tank: The Islanders enter another hostile building Tuesday night. The Sharks are 10-1-2 at the tank this season.
•Back-to-Back: The Islanders wrap up their eighth back-to-back set of the season Tuesday in San Jose.
•Bouchard Waived: The Islanders placed Pierre-Marc Bouchard on waivers Monday.
