OT solves nothing, as both teams generate very little. Isles play it safe and we are headed to a shootout.
1:05: Thomas Vanek pushes Bishop - and the puck - into the net, but the whistle had already blown and the goal is waved off.
3:26: TBL PP (Cal Clutterbuck - Two Minutes Contact to the Head) Isles first PK
5:26: Cal joins his pals. Teams back to even strength.
10:21: NYI GOAL! Frans Nielsen finishes off a 2-on-1 with Michael Grabner, putting the Isles up by two with 9:39 to go. Bailey with the second assist. Islanders lead 2-0.
12:22: Tavares slides hard into the end boards after a hit from Radko Gudas. Captain stays down for a minute, but skates back to the bench. Okposo starts a scrum after the hard hit to the captain.
17:07: TBL goal. Valtteri Filppula puts the Bolts on the board late in the third. 2-1 Islanders.
19:57: TBL goal. Filppula burns the Isles with 3.8 seconds to go. 2-2 game.
END OF 3RD PERIOD: Score tied 2-2. Lightning lead shots 35-33.
0:11 NYI PP GOAL! Kyle Okposo sends a howitzer through a screen and past Ben Bishop. Islanders strike early and lead 1-0
4:16: Matt Martin and B.J. Crombeen drop the gloves in the Lightning end. Martin gets the better of the exchange and both get fighting majors.
6:52: Ryan Strome feeds Brock Nelson out front, but Mark Barberio deflects the shot into the netting.
12:30: Nabokov gives the Coliseum a scare with a giveaway while playing the puck. Crowd breathes a sign of relief as Islanders clear zone.
12:56: NYI PP (Tyler Johnson - Two Minutes Holding) Isles PP: 1-1.
14:56: Johnson is out of the box. Isles PP is 1-2.
END OF 2ND PERIOD: Islanders lead 1-0. Shots are 23-21 Isles
1:57: Frans Nielsen has first Isles chance of the game, wrists one from the hashmarks but Bishop is equal to the task.
7:10: Josh Bailey gets a breakaway, but Sami Salo brings him down on the backcheck. No penalty.
10:00: Radko Gudas' point shot is deflected by Ondrej Palat and hits the post behind Evgeni Nabokov. No score halfway through the first.
16:00-17:00: Bailey has a clear breakaway, but puts the puck over the net. That chance sparks a dominant Isles cycle in the Lightning end. Tavares carries puck out from behind the net, spins off the defenseman and throws a pass through the crease to Grabner, but puck skips on his stick. Great chances by the Isles, but still no score.
19:27: NYI PP (Radko Gudas - Two Minutes Interference) Isles first power play of the game.

First Meeting: The Islanders host the Tampa Bay Lightning for the first of three meetings this season. The Isles swept the season series with the Bolts in 2012-13, including both games at Nassau Coliseum. After finishing 14th in the Eastern Conference last season, the Lightning have rebounded this season and are currently fourth in the East.
Lineup Notes/Changes: Head coach Jack Capuano is going with the same lineup from Saturday’s game against Montreal. Colin McDonald, Matt Carkner and Casey Cizikas are out for the Islanders.
Nabby Starts: After a stellar performance on Saturday, Evgeni Nabokov gets the start Tuesday for the Islanders.
From the Coach: It’s always a defensive-first mentality, but it’s also about battle levels and I thought we did a better job last game against a quick team. We maintained D-side positioning, we did a lot of good things on the defensive side. We just need to create a little bit more.
All-Time: The Islanders are 40-35-7 all-time against the Lightning.
