The Islanders fell 3-2 to the New York Rangers on Oct. 29, the teams’ only meeting at Nassau Coliseum in 2013-14. Cal Clutterbuck and Travis Hamonic had the Islanders up 2-1 heading into the third period, but the Rangers rallied for two goals in the final frame. With 6:54 left to play, Benoit Pouliot scored the winner for the blueshirts and spoiled Thomas Vanek’s Islanders debut.

Rangers player to watch
Rick Nash - Forward

Rick Nash had a tough start to 2013-14, suffering a concussion that kept him out for six weeks, including the first Isles-Rangers game of the season. Nash’s numbers are down as a result (12 points in 18 games), but the big-bodied winger still has tremendous skill and a scoring touch. Nash is a former first overall pick, a Rocket Richard winner and scored 42 points (21g/21a) in 44 games for the Rangers last season. He had three points (1g/2a) in three games against the Islanders last season.
Islanders Storylines
Archrivals: These games are always heated and Oct. 29 was no exception. Even captain John Tavares picked up a 10-minute misconduct at the final horn.
Second Line: Frans Nielsen and Michael Grabner were all over the ice Tuesday, generating odd-man rushes and combining for a second period goal. Grabner also had a team-high seven hits Saturday.
•League Leaders: Andrew MacDonald leads the league with 120 blocked shots while Matt Martin leads the NHL with 170 hits.
30-30: John Tavares (13g/25a) and Kyle Okposo (11g/19a) have both surpassed 30 points this season.

Quote of the Day:
Michael Grabner on the second lines' chances:
Last game we had a lot of chances, the game before we were pretty good on the forecheck, finishing our checks and turning pucks over. We just have to build off that and if we keep playing like this, the goals will come.
