2013-14 season series (1-1-0)

The Islanders and Red Wings split the first two games of their season series, both played at Nassau Coliseum. The Isles took the first game 5-4 in a shootout (their fifth straight against the Red Wings), but lost 5-0 two weeks later.  Kevin Poulin appeared in both games for the Islanders, replacing an injured Evgeni Nabokov in the win. Captain John Tavares picked up a goal and an assist in two games vs. the Wings.

Red Wings player to watch
Pavel Datsyuk - Center

A crafty vet, Pavel Datsyuk is renowned for his dangles – especially in the shootout – and has the skill to turn any player inside out. The 35-year-old Russian currently leads the Red Wings with 14 goals and is second on the team with 29 points in 31 games. The three-time Selke trophy winner (2008-10) is one of the NHL’s premier two-way forwards and is tied for the league lead in takeaways (44) this season. Datsyuk, a master pickpocket, has led the league in takeaways four times since 2006-07.

Quote of the Day:
Head Coach Jack Capuano on Saturday's 5-3 loss.
"We have to learn to play a North-South game, not an East-West game.  Tonight was a prime example of what you do when you don't move the puck and you play in your own end."
