Kevin Poulin stopped 23-of-24 shots, but the Islanders were shut out in a 1-0 loss to the Hurricanes on Nov. 7, 2013. The Islanders took 21 shots, but could not solve Justin Peters in the low-scoring affair. Hurricanes forward Radek Dvorak had the eventual winner deflect off his body at 6:39 of the first period.

Hurricanes player to watch
Alex Semin - Forward

Alexander Semin is off the point-per-game pace he set last season, but he is heating up for the Carolina Hurricanes as of late. Semin has points in five straight (2-4-6) and points in six of seven. The 29-year-old Russian can be a lethal sniper, having scored 40 in 2009-10, so the Islanders shouldn’t give him a chance to get his shot off.

Islanders Storylines
Three Straight: The Islanders have won three straight games for the first time this season, with two of those wins coming over last season’s Stanley Cup finalists (Boston and Chicago).
Okposo and Vanek: Kyle Okposo is riding an eight-game point streak (6-7-13) while Thomas Vanek is on a seven-game streak (4-6-10). Okposo’s streak matches the longest of his career, while Vanek needs a point tonight to match his longest streak. Okposo has goals in three straight games.
Divisional Game: The Islanders need a win to avoid falling 0-3 to their Metropolitan division rivals. The Hurricanes have won the previous two meetings.
