Islanders prospect Ville Pokka, and Team Finland, won World Junior gold Sunday, beating Team Sweden 3-2 in overtime in the championship game. Pokka, the Islanders second-round selection in 2012, was plus-two in the final and finished the tournament with one goal and three assists. Pokka was named one of Finland’s top-three players by the coaches and his plus-seven rating was the highest amongst all defensemen in the tournament.
Finland lost twice in the preliminary round, including a 4-2 setback against the host Swedes, but turned it on in the playoffs, beating Canada 5-1 in the semifinals before edging its rival in the final.
