Pokka captures gold, as Isles prospects return home from World Junior Championship
AMATEUR PROSPECTS:

World Juniors Update:

Pokka:

Islanders prospect Ville Pokka captured world junior gold Sunday, as Team Finland beat Sweden 3-2 in overtime in the championship game. The 2012 second-round selection was plus-two in the final and finished the tournament with one goal and three assists. Pokka was named one of Finland’s top-three players by the coaches and his plus-seven rating was the highest amongst all defensemen in the tournament.

Finland lost twice in the preliminary round, including a 4-2 setback against Sweden, but turned it on in the playoffs, beating Canada 5-1 in the semifinals before edging its rival in the final.

Reinhart and Pelech:
Two other Islanders prospects, Griffin Reinhart and Adam Pelech, represented Team Canada at the WJC, skating to a fourth-place finish. Team Russia beat the Canadians 2-1 in the bronze medal game, marking the second straight year Canada finished without a medal. Pelech recorded an assist in the third-place game, his only point of the tournament, while Reinhart had a goal and an assist in four tournament games.
