AMATEUR PROSPECTS:

Griffin Reinhart leads Oil Kings to top of Eastern Conference:

Griffin Reinhart helped lead the Edmonton Oil Kings to three straight victories last week, including two over province rivals, the Calgary Hitmen. On Friday night, Reinhart scored one of the Oil Kings seven goals in a 7-3 rout of the Hitmen. The three-win week extended the Oil Kings streak to five straight wins. The Oil Kings took over first place in the WHL’s Eastern Conference after the back-to-back wins over the weekend.

Bridgeport Sound Tigers:  18-22-1-4, 4th in Northeast Division, 13th in Eastern Conference

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers finished this past weekend undefeated in three contests and now have four consecutive wins. On Friday, the Sound Tigers beat the Portland Pirates 4-3 in a shootout. Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Mike Cornell scored I the shootout after Ryan Strome forced overtime in the last 20 seconds of regulation. Bouchard and Mike Cornell rounded out the scoring for the Sound Tigers in the second period. On Saturday, the Sound Tigers followed up the shootout win with a 3-1 victory over the Springfield Falcons. Scooter Vaughn, Chris Langkow, and Mike Halmo all scored for the Sound Tigers. The following day, Bridgeport concluded the weekend with a 6-5 win over the Syracuse Crunch. John Persson notched his first career hat trick, while Anders Lee, Vaughan, and Andrew Clark also scored for the Sound Tigers. Persson’s hat-trick goal proved to be the game winner, breaking the tie with less than five minutes remaining in regulation. Goaltender Kenny Reiter stopped 32 shots to earn his ninth win of the season.

Stockton Thunder: 21-14-0-5, 2nd in Pacific Division, 4th in Western Conference

The Stockton Thunder split their weekend series with the Ontario Reign winning 4-1 on Friday. Goaltender Brian Foster made 29 saves in the win while James Henry, Nathan Deck, Greg Miller and J.P. Burkemper lit the lamp for the Thunder. Despite Stockton tallying the game’s first goal on Sunday, Ontario came back to take a 5-2 victory. James Henry opened the scoring for the second time in as many days with a power play goal. Greg Miller scored the Thunder’s second goal.
