Practice Updates - 2/2/14
Updates from the Islanders practice at Islanders Iceworks in Syosset.
After playing 16 games in 30 days, the Islanders have a three-day break in their schedule – their first since a four-day break at Christmas.
Jack Capuano gave his team the day off yesterday, but held a fast-paced practice at Islanders Iceworks, with a focus on conditioning, as well as systems and skill work. The Islanders will practice here again tomorrow ahead of their afternoon departure to Washington D.C. for Tuesday’s game against the Captials. Here are some news, notes and quotes from today’s practice.
The Islanders stretch during Sunday's practice at Iceworks.
Hamonic Skates: Travis Hamonic participated in the first four drills of Sunday’s practice, but his status was not updated by head coach Jack Capuano. The four-drill limit was set before practice.
Lines Juggled: Capuano shuffled his second and third lines during Sunday’s practice. The coach said he just wanted a different look, but he was also looking to spark his team’s offense, which only produced two goals in their last two games.
Lines during Sunday’s practice:

From the Coach: We just wanted to get different looks in practice with different plays and line combinations. We are going through a stretch where we aren’t scoring many goals. You can play as much great defense as you want – and that’s our mentality, a defense-first mentality – but there aren’t going to be too many 1-0 games in this league… We have to get secondary scoring.
