AMATEUR PROSPECTS:

Ryan Pulock: Western Hockey League club’s IMPACT Player of the Month

Islanders’ prospect Ryan Pulock was chosen as January’s IMPACT Player of the Month on Feb. 3. The award is given to players who exemplifies the characteristics of what IMPACT stands for, which is Inspire, Motivate, Participate, Achieve, Champions and Team.  The Islanders’ 2013 first-round pick finished second on the Brandon Wheat Kings in scoring with three goals, 13 points, and a plus-3 ranking in 11 games. 

Adam Pelech: Four-Point Weekend

Defenseman Adam Pelech had a four-point week (one goal, three assists) for the Erie Otters, who beat the Saginaw Spirit and London Knights. The Islanders’ 2012 third-round pick scored the game-winner and added two assists in Saturday’s 7-2 win over London and added an assist in Thursday’s 3-0 win over Saginaw. Pelech is having a career year with 45 points (nine goals, 36 assists) and plus/minus (plus-41) and is the fourth highest-scoring defenseman in the Ontario Hockey League.

Kyle Burroughs: Three-point Weekend Leads to Career High

Captain Kyle Burroughs of the Regina Pats helped his team defeat the Saskatoon Blades 7-3 this past Saturday. The defenseman gave the Pats the 3-0 lead late in the first period with his third goal in four games. The mark set a new career-high with his sixth goal of the season. Burroughs ended the night being awarded the first star for his three-point effort (one goal, two assists).

Bridgeport Sound Tigers:  20-24-1-4, 4th in Northeast Division, 12th in Eastern Conference

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers reached a franchise milestone over the weekend, playing the team’s 1,000th regular-season game. The Sound Tigers fell to the Albany Devils 3-0 in the 1,000th game, but rebounded for a 5-4 win over the Adirondack Phantoms in game 1,001. John Persson scored twice, while Ryan Strome, Mike Halmo and Matt Donovan potted goals for the Sound Tigers. Anders Nilsson made 27 saves for his seventh win of the season.

Stockton Thunder: 21-19-0-5, 2nd in Pacific Division, 4th in Western Conference

The Stockton Thunder were swept by the Alaska Aces in Anchorage during the teams’ three-game set over the ECHL’s Hockey Heritage Weekend. The Thunder lost 4-2 on Friday, 5-2 on Saturday and fell 4-3 on Sunday. Joey Martin and Landon Oslanski each had two goals for the Thunder, who adopted commemorative Rough and Ready Islanders third jerseys for the weekend series. Rough and Ready Island is the site of the San Francisco Naval Commission, located just outside Stockton, CA.
