Islanders Deal MacDonald to Flyers
Defenseman traded for 2014 3rd round pick, 2015 2nd round pick and Matt Mangene
The New York Islanders announced today that defenseman Andrew MacDonald has been traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a third round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, a second round pick in 2015 NHL Draft and center Matt Mangene.
MacDonald, 27, has 24 points (four goals, 20 assists) in 63 games this season with the Islanders. He currently leads the NHL in blocked shots, with 198. A native of Judique, NS, has appeared in 295 career NHL games over six seasons with the Islanders, totaling 89 points (17 goals, 72 assists). The Islanders selected MacDonald in the sixth round (160th overall) of the 2006 NHL Draft.
Mangene, 24, has six points (three goals, three assists) in 51 games this season with the Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League. A native of Manorville, NY, Mangene played three seasons of college hockey at the University of Maine, scoring 16 goals and 34 points in his final year with the Black Bears in 2011-12.
