Morning Skate Updates 3\/6\/14
News, notes and quotes from the Islanders morning skate at Rexall Place.

The Islanders Western road trip continues in Edmonton, as the Islanders get set for a date with the Oilers tonight at 9:30 Eastern Time.

The Islanders are coming off of a hard-working, resilient 3-2 overtime win over the Winnipeg Jets Tuesday night.

Ahead of tonight’s game, the Islanders held an optional morning skate at Rexall Place in Edmonton.

Here are some news, notes and quotes from Thursday’s skate.

Lineup Notes/Changes:

Nabokov Starts: Evgeni Nabokov gets the start in goal for the Islanders. Nabokov made 27 saves against the Oilers in a 3-2 win on Oct. 17.

Halmo and Donovan Recalled: Mike Halmo and Matt Donovan were recalled from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Wednesday. Halmo is Bridgeport’s third-leading scorer, while Donovan has 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) in 27 games with the Sound Tigers.

Capuano on Donovan: The last time that Matt was up he played real well. The first time we sent him down there were some things he needed to work on – some deficiencies in his game – but he corrected them, he came back and he played extremely well for us. I want to see him do the same thing.

:The Islanders open their 14th set of back-to-back games tonight. They are 6-7-0 on the front end, and 5-6-2 on the back-end of back-to-backs this season. The club will total 17 back-to-back sets in 2013-14.

Iron-Man: Thomas Hickey is the only Islander that has appeared in every game this season

Hot Starter: Anders Lee has six points (4g/2a) in his first six career NHL games. He has three goals in his first four games this season since being called up after the Olympic break

From the Coach: The message to the guys – with everything going on – is to stay focused and stay together. We want them to play within the team concept and do the right things. That’s not going to change.

We’ve gone through some changes with our lineup. As a coaching staff...all you can do is prepare your team so they have the best chance to win a hockey game. [We have to] keep teaching a lot of the young kids that we have.
