Morning Skate Updates 3\/10\/14
News, notes and quotes from the Islanders morning skate at Rogers Arena.
The Islanders had two days to rest, recover and practice in picturesque Vancouver ahead of tonight’s game against the Canucks. The team arrived in Vancouver after their game in Calgary on Friday night and took one day off before practicing Sunday at Rogers Arena.

The Islanders took one-of-four points on the Alberta swing of their road trip, but have a chance to finish off their trip above .500 with a win tonight in Vancouver.

The Canucks enter the game with a win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday night, but are still 2-7-1 in their last 10 games. The Canucks are looking to reserve their fortunes and get back in the Western Conference playoff picture, as they currently sit in 10th place, four points back of the Dallas Stars.

Ahead of tonight’s tilt, the Islanders held an optional morning skate at Rogers Arena. Here are some news, notes and quotes from today’s skate.

Lineup Notes/Changes:

Late Start:
Tonight's game starts at 10 p.m. Eastern Time (7 p.m. Pacific Time). This is the Islanders last game outside of the Eastern Time Zone this season.

Nabokov Starts: Evgeni Nabokov will start tonight for the Islanders.

Bailey’s 100th: Josh Bailey recorded 100th career assist on Friday night. Bailey needs one more assist to establish a new single-season career-high.

McDonald Streaking: Colin McDonald is riding a three-game point streak (two goals, one assist).

Okposo: Kyle Okposo is two goals shy of 100 career goals. Okposo leads the Islanders with 26 goals this season and is 12th in league scoring with 62 points (26 goals, 36 assists).

Sedin/Kassian Out: Daniel Sedin will miss tonight's game with a lower-body injury while Zack Kassian is serving a three-game suspension.

Lack Starts: Eddie Lack will start for the Canucks tonight.

Deadline Deals: The Canucks traded goaltender Roberto Luongo to the Florida Panthers for goalie Jacob Markstrom and forward Shawn Matthias. The Canucks also shipped Raphael Diaz to the New York Rangers.

Kesler Stays: The deal the Canucks didn’t make was just as noteworthy, as US Olympian Ryan Kesler, who was speculated to be on the move, was not traded before Wednesday’s deadline.

Matthias: Newly-acquired Canuck Shawn Matthias has one assist in two games with his new club.
