Islanders player to watch
Matt Martin - Forward

Matt Martin was the hero in the Islanders 5-4 win on Tuesday night, scoring two goals – including the game-winner – against the Hurricanes. The Islanders grinder scored both goals, his sixth and seventh of the season, around the blue paint, tying a career-high in the process. Martin currently leads the NHL with 310 hits – 56 more than no. 2 Cody Franson – and is poised to finish with the most body checks for the third straight season.
Lightning player to watch
Steven Stamkos - Forward

Steven Stamkos faces off against the Islanders for the first time this season after missing the previous two contests with a broken leg. The injury limited Stamkos to 27 games this season, but he has 21 goals in that span, which would put the former 60-goal scorer on pace for 63 this season. The 2008 first-overall pick is one of the most gifted scorers in the league, having won the Rocket Richard Trophy twice in his first four seasons. Stamkos has six tallies in his last five games
2013-14 season series (1-0-1)

The Islanders and Lightning split the first two games of their season series, with both contests decided in overtime/shootout. In their most recent outing, the Islanders rode Kevin Poulin’s 30-save performance to a 2-1 shootout win. Poulin made all three saves in the shootout while Frans Nielsen buried the game-decider.

Quote of the Day:
Colin McDonald on the Islanders 5-4 win in Carolina:
“We’ve struggled with holding leads all year, so after the first period we just looked at it as another chance for us to learn how to play with the lead. We have a lot of young guys on this team now, it’s just another chance to gain some experience and keep getting better."
