Isles Awards: Player of the Year

It's time for the fourth round of #IslesAwards voting!

Islanders fans - it's up to you to decide the "Player of the Year."

Watch the video - containing highlights from each outstanding Islander - and place your vote. The poll will be open until noon on Thursday, with the winner being announced Friday.

Nominee 1: John Tavares
In his first season as Islanders captain, John Tavares tallied the highest point-per-game ratio of his career with 66 points in 59 games (1.12 ppg). Tavares finished second in team scoring despite missing 23 games due to injury. The 23-year-old started the season with points in 18 of the first 21 games, but his hottest stretch came at the turn of the New Year. The fifth-year Islander tallied 16 points in a seven-game span, including a five-point night (three goals, two assists) against the Dallas Stars on Jan. 7.

Nominee 2: Kyle Okposo
Kyle Okposo was a revelation for the Islanders this season, emerging as the team’s top scorer during a breakout campaign. Okposo led the Islanders with 69 points (27 goals, 42 assists) in 71 games and tied Patrick Kane and Martin St. Louis for 19th in league scoring. The St. Paul, MN native set new highs in goals, assists and points, while playing gritty, hard-nosed hockey and was one of the emotional leaders for the Islanders.  In a 20-game stretch from Dec. 17 to Jan. 27, Okposo recorded 13 goals and 15 assists.

Nominee 3: Frans Nielsen
Frans Nielsen had a career-year in 2013-14, setting new highs in goals (25), assists (33) and points (58). The Danish center added a new offensive dimension to his outstanding defensive game, making him a more dangerous overall player.  With captain John Tavares out during the final quarter of the season, Nielsen stepped up into the first line in a big way. Nielsen tallied 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in the 20 games after the Olympic break. The Isles shootout ace also once again set the standard for shootout excellence, finishing second in the NHL with eight shootout tallies.
