NHL Central Scouting's Chris Edwards
On Tyler Seguin - "Tyler Seguin makes things happen every time he is on the ice and he makes his teammates better. He's a skilled forward. He's a guy that's obviously a top-line forward with all kinds of puck skills and playmaking abilities. ... He's an elusive guy in traffic, avoiding checks with the puck.”
Plymouth Head Coach Mike Vellucci
On Tyler Seguin - "I knew he was a great player, knew he had the skill level to do it. The surprise to me is he has the determination and the heart for it. He never stops moving on the ice, even in practice. He's always moving, trying to get better. That's what surprises me. Surprised by his talent and ability? No, but by how much he wants it.”
Islanders Assistant GM Ryan Jankowski
On Tyler Seguin - "Tyler is a very good all around player. He creates offense on the rush by not only moving the puck but also with his one on one skill."
On Mikael Granlund - "Mikael had a very god year in the Finish Elite League. He is a competitive player who sees the ice very well and creates chances for both his teammates and himself with his play-making skills."
NHL Director of European Scouting Goran Stubb
On Mikael Granlund - "Saku Koivu clone. He's small, but no one's told him he's small. He has a really good, winning attitude, works very hard. He's tough, and he has very good hockey sense."

1st Overall Selection
- John Tavares -
Last summer, the Islanders had the top pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. After a lot of mixed signals from Islanders' General Manager, Garth Snow on who he was going to select, he went with John Tavares.
This past season was Tavares' first in the NHL. The Mississauga, ON native led the Islanders in scoring last season with 54 points. He was named to the All-Rookie Team along with Matt Duchene, Tyler Myers, Niklas Bergfors, Michael Del Zotto and Jimmy Howard.
Tavares tied a single game Islanders' record for points with five (2 goals and 3 assists) in a 5-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. That same week, Tavares was named the second star. |
