CHECK IN WITH THE ISLES ON FOURSQUARE

Become Foursquare friends with the New York Islanders:
Log in to your account on Foursquare.com and go to http://foursquare.com/nyislanders and click "add as friend." Soon, you'll be able to see all of the places that we check in to such as arenas for road games, practice facilities, locations for autograph signings and sometimes even places we go sightseeing when we're on the road.

When you're out and about, look for these Official New York Islanders venues:

Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum - http://foursquare.com/venue/362465
Isles Meetup at Doolin's Pub (lower concourse of the Coliseum where fans meet up before games and during intermissions) - http://foursquare.com/venue/10470612
New York Islanders Team Store Massapequa - http://foursquare.com/venue/2483409
Iceworks (our practice facility and pro shop) - http://foursquare.com/venue/824148

By checking into our venues you'll be able to see who is there, what they have to say about it, let your friends know you're there and sometimes even unlock deals from the New York Islanders.

Check in to the Coliseum at all Islanders home games and be automatically entered to win a pair of tickets to a future game. (You must be present at the game during the 3rd period to win.)

What is Foursquare and how do the New York Islanders and their fans use it?

Foursquare is a location-based social networking application. It is a friend-finder, a social city guide and a game that challenges users to experience new things, and rewards them for doing so. Foursquare lets users "check in" to a place when they're there, tell friends where they are and even leave tips for future visitors. The New York Islanders use Foursquare as a way to connect with their fans socially and offer rewards for being loyal.

Getting started:

Download one of Foursquare's apps on your phone. Visit the app store on your phone or go to Foursquare.com (m.foursquare.com from your mobile browser) to find the right app for your platform. Register for an account through the mobile app that you installed and link your Twitter and/or Facebook accounts to it. Don't forget to add a profile picture! You can't earn badges without it.

Now the fun begins:
Check in! Checking in lets the friends that you've decided to share with know where you are, if you choose to tell them. Click "check in" or "places" in your mobile app and look for the place you want to check in to. If it's not there, you can add it right from your phone. That makes you just like an explorer; finding new places and helping others to find it.

When you check in you'll be given the option to share with Twitter, Facebook or your Foursquare friends. Are you at the Islanders Team Store picking up a gift for your spouse and don't want to ruin the surprise? Un-check the "tell my friends" and "send to Twitter/Facebook" boxes and you'll show up as "off the grid - checked in but hiding their whereabouts." That way, no one knows you're there, but you'll still get credit for the check-in and unlock any possible specials at your location.

Check out the tips and leave tips for others:
Checking in at Iceworks? See what others had to say. You may find that someone recommended a certain beginners skating clinic or that they have skate sharpening right on premises. Have a favorite section to sit in at Islanders games? Check in at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum the next time you're there and leave that as a tip for others who may be there to buy tickets to an upcoming game.

The more you check in, the more you earn and unlock:

A user that checks in the most amount of times at a certain venue in 60 days becomes "Mayor" of that venue until someone else ousts them by checking in more often. Being a Mayor of a venue shows everyone who checks in there that you really love that place and go there often. Some merchants even reward their Mayors with specials or freebies.

Checking into venues earns you points which makes it a game between you and your Foursquare friends. You can check the weekly leader board to see which of you has the most points. You don't earn anything with the points but it's fun to track where you stand up against other Foursquare users. You can also earn badges for checking in a certain amount of times or at some special events.
