Giving back to the community is a cornerstone of the Islanders family at every level. Players participate in a variety of different charitable events throughout the year. Below are programs different players have implemented.

Bailey's Buddies Program
The 2014 season marked the fourth straight season Islanders forward Josh Bailey has hosted his Bailey’s Buddies program.   At each home game, Bailey invited a child recovering from illness or an underprivileged child for a once-in-a-lifetime, VIP experience. During the game, Bailey’s “Buddy” watches the game in a seat close to where the Islanders take the ice, high-fives the players , receives an Islanders gift bag with a Bailey player t-shirt and meets  the Islanders forward after the game.  Bailey signs autographs, takes pictures and often tours the locker room with each “Buddy.”
Michael Grabner Charity Goal Program

Islanders forward Michael Grabner created the Grabner Charity Goal Program at the start of the 2011-2012 season. For each goal Michael scores a donation of $500 is made to the Islanders Children’s Foundation. At the end of the 2013-14 season Grabner donated $10,000 to the cause. Over the course of the past three seasons, Grabner has donated more than $30,000 to the Islanders Children’s Foundation.

Matt Martin Defending the Blue Line Program
Islanders forward Matt Martin created a partnership with Defending the Blue Line in 2011, and over the last two seasons, the Islanders forward has hosted a veteran and a family member at each game from Defending the Blue Line. Martin takes the time to meet with each guest following all Islanders home games.
John Tavares Teammates' Program

The 2014 season marked the third straight season Islanders Captain John Tavares hosted his Teammates program.  For the past three seasons Tavares hosts a child recovering from illness or an underprivileged child for a once-in-a-lifetime VIP experience. During the game, the special guest sits right behind the player bench, high-fives the players as they walk onto the ice, receives an Islanders gift and meets the Islanders Captain after the game. Tavares signs autographs and takes pictures with each special guest.

Travis Hamonic D-partner of the Game
The 2014 season marked the second straight season for the D-Partner Program. At each home game, Hamonic hosted a child that had lost one or both parents. During the game, Hamonic’s D-Partner sits in special rink-side seats, high-fives the players as they walk onto the ice, receives an Islanders gift and meets Hamonic after the game. Travis signs autographs, takes pictures and tours the locker room with each special participant. During the post game visit the Travis and the families in attendance share stories about their loved ones who have passed.

Matt Martin and Casey Cizikas Fight Cystic Fibrosis

Islanders forwards Matt Martin and Casey Cizikas teamed up during the 2013-2014 season off-the-ice as well.  For each home game the Islanders forwards invited a child who has Cystic Fibrosis to the game.  As a disease that is near to the players families Martin and Cizikas wanted to create a memorable experience for children enduring the hardship of overcoming this disease. After each home game Martin and Cizikas took the time to meet with each guest and sign autographs and take pictures.

Colin McDonald's Wounded Warrior Program

The 2013-14 season marked the first season that Colin McDonald teamed up with the Wounded Warrior Project. For each home game during the season, the Islanders forward hosted a wounded warrior and honored them at a game. The veteran is recognized during an in-game ceremony and McDonald takes the time to meet with his guest following the game.

Matt Carkner's Special Hockey Program

Throughout the 2013-14 season Islanders defenseman Matt Carkner worked with the special hockey organizations of Long Island.  At select home games during the season Carkner invited a member of the Long Island Blues hockey team to come down and enjoy a game.  Each special guest met with Carkner following the game and took a tour of the locker room.
