Islanders Hockey Academy
The Islanders Hockey Academy provides entry-level hockey players with an opportunity to play ice hockey at no cost to you, equipment included! The Islanders know that it’s a big commitment, both in time and money, for a child to learn to play hockey and we want to make it as easy as possible.
We provide the ice time and the equipment for children ages 6-14 to begin playing hockey. All we ask in return is that each child who participates sells 30 ticket vouchers to any combination of select games as a fundraiser, allowing children who take part in the program next season to enjoy the same benefits that your child will enjoy. The program provides an example of true sportsmanship and is a great way for children to help other children achieve their dreams.
There are two levels of this program:
There are two levels for this program
Level 1:
This level is designed with the real beginner in mind. Participants in this level will have little or no ice skating experience. Basic skating skills are taught at this level: Standing, falling and getting up, skating forward and stopping.
Level 2:
This level is for a skater that has been on the ice before and wants to start developing skills to play the game of ice hockey. Situated in a clinic setting, this level will focus on the fundamentals: forward skating, stopping, puck handling, stick handling, position play, puck shooting, backward skating, etc.
The program includes full equipment – all pads, skates, stick, helmet, pants, jersey and hockey bag – and is a ticket voucher based program. Participants will also receive 8 weeks of instruction and the program will coincide with Come Play Hockey Month.
