Meet Our Coaches

Andy Morenberg

amorenberg@gmail.com

Since 1981, Andrew Morenberg has been playing the game he loves with passion and dedication. Andrew is a native of Kings Park, NY and holds an M.B.A., along with a Masters of Science in Education from Long Island University. He has an intense passion for teaching the game to young aspiring athletes.

Andrew's love of hockey began over 30 years ago after watching the United States Men's Hockey team defeat the Soviet Union during the 1980 Winter Olympics in what became known as the "Miracle on Ice". He still remembers watching the game with his father, which was his inspiration for taking up the game of hockey - and he hasn't taken off his skates since.

Morenberg played hockey competitively until 2004, but began his coaching career in 1992 while working at the Port Washington Skating Academy.  Andrew joined the Iceworks coaching staff in 1998 while also teaching science in the Harborfields School District. He always stresses dedication, desire and commitment toward the game in his classes, as well as in his private and group lessons. If you are interested in setting up lessons for your child you can contact Coach Morenberg regarding availability and scheduling at the number/email above.

Dan "Graz" Graziano
516-996-8272

For the last 15 years Coach Dan Graziano has been playing hockey with a passion. Growing up on Long Island (from Farmingdale) and being an Islanders fan, "Graz" had plenty of inspiration to learn the game. His favorite player growing up was former Islanders great Mike Bossy.

Graz' years of playing the game naturally translated into a career as an instructor. Since 1999 Dan has been teaching at Islanders Iceworks. His ability to relate to the younger skaters makes his classes fun while still being extremly educational. Throughout his years as an instructor Coach Graz has gained a plethora of knowledge by working with many former NHL coaches and players. Graz stresses that his students first and foremost become great skaters because then everything else will fall into place.

Dan coaches both group classes as well as private lessons. His private lessons usually run around one hour. Contact Dan at the number above for his availability and pricing for private lessons.

Michael Lang
516-582-4871

Starting at the ripe old age of 5, Michael Lang has always had a passion for hockey. The Long Island (from Massapequa) native has also had a passion for teaching. By combining those two passions Coach Lang has over 18 years of success as a coach and instructor.

Lang has a rich history and career in the sport of hockey dating back to his early years. Growing up, Lang's favorite player was Islanders great Mike Bossy, so he had a great role model to style his game after. Lang finished his playing career after playing Division III hockey in college.

In 1992, Coach Lang hung up the equipment in exchange for the whistle and the whiteboard to pursue a coaching and instructing career. Aside from instructing classes, Lang is also the head coach of the Long Island Gulls Squirt Minor team. He demands that his players have a hard work ethic and a dedication to become a better player in all aspects of the game.

Coach Lang is available for both group classes and private lessons. His private lessons usually last an hour. Contact him for more information about private lessons at the number above.

Vinny Messina
516-383-5675

With 40 years under his belt playing the game of hockey, Vinny Messina is one of the senior instructors at Islanders Iceworks. The Long Island native (from Massapequa) has always had a passion for hockey; in fact it's in his bloodline. Vinny's uncle, Sal "Red Light" Messina, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2005.

Although his favorite all time player is Bobby Orr, Vinny has always tried to model his game after former Islander captain Denis Potvin. One highlight of his hockey career was captaining his High School hockey team to the County Championship. He also spent time as the head coach of Stony Brook University's Men's Hockey team before he gave up collegiate coaching to dedicate his knowledge of the game towards instructing children.

Coach Messina has been teaching the game hockey for over 20 years. He began instructing at Iceworks in 1993 and has seen many of his students go on to be successful, well rounded hockey players. Messina stresses that his students come to lessons with a love of the game and dedication towards learning. He instructs both classes and private lessons. Contact Vinny about availability for private lessons.
