Selected by the Islanders in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2006 National Hockey League Draft. Signed an Entry-Level Contract with the Islanders on Dec. 28, 2007. Agreed to a five-year contract extension on May 25, 2011.

LAST SEASON:
Scored a career-high 24 goals in 79 games during his fifth season with the Islanders and his fifth professional campaign...Added 21 assists for 45 points to finish sixth on the team in scoring...Posted a career-high 46 penalty minutes...Scored six power-play points (3g/3a)...21-of-23 goals came after Dec. 1...Served as an Assistant Captain...Finished fourth on the team in Three Stars of the Game honors with seven total nods, including one first-star selection... 2008-09: Led the Islanders in goals (18) and ranked second on the team in points (39), power-play goals (9) and shots on goal (165) in his first full NHL season...Led the Islanders and all NHL rookies in takeaways (76)...Among NHL rookies, ranked ninth in goals, tied for eighth in points, tied for second in power-play goals, tied for seventh in power-play points (13), tied for second in game-winning goals (3) and fourth in shots...Scored a career-high two goals, including the game-winner, on Jan. 28 at Atlanta...Scored two four-game goal streaks: Jan. 19-31 (5g) and Mar. 7-12 (4g)…Recorded two five-game point streaks: Dec. 26 - Jan. 2 (2g/5a) and Jan. 19 - Feb. 3 (5g/1a)...Recorded points in a career-high eight straight games from Mar. 7-21 (5g/5a).

2007-08:
Made his NHL debut on Mar. 18 vs. Toronto and played the final nine games of the season with the Islanders, recording two goals and three assists for five points...Scored his first NHL goal (M. Brodeur/game-winner) on Mar. 21 at New Jersey and also recorded his first NHL assist/point in the same game...Scored eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 29 games with Bridgeport (American Hockey League) after leaving the University of Minnesota...Recorded a goal and four assists in his first weekend with Bridgeport (three games).
