Selected by the Islanders in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2008 National Hockey League Draft. Signed a three-year, Entry-Level Contract on May 27, 2010. Signed a seven-year contract on July 5, 2013.

LAST SEASON:
Scored 10 points (3g/7a) in 48 games during his third NHL season with the Islanders...Was one of eight Islanders to appear in every game... Led the Islanders in shifts per game (27.2) and ranked fourth in average time on ice (22:48)...Scored the Islanders’ first goal of the season on Jan. 19 vs. New Jersey...Recorded his 50th career assist on Mar. 22 vs. Pittsburgh...Scored his first career game-winning goal on Apr. 1 at New Jersey...Appeared in 21 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (American Hockey League) during the NHL Lockout, recording 10 points (4g/6a) and two game-winning goals...Recorded three assists in Bridgeport’s season opener at Connecticut on Oct. 12.

2009-10: Split his fourth Western Hockey League season between the Moose Jaw Warriors and Brandon Wheat Kings, totaling 44 points (11g/33a) in 31 regular season games...Despite playing in fewer than half of Moose Jaw’s games, finished the season as the team’s second-leading scoring defenseman...Traded to Brandon prior to the WHL playoffs and finished sixth on the team in postseason scoring with 11 points (4g/7a) in 15 games. 

2008-09:
Established junior career highs in goals (13) and points (40) in 57 games during his third Western Hockey League season with Moose Jaw...Led all Moose Jaw defensemen in goals, assists (27) and points, ranking fifth overall on the team...Ranked second on the team with a career-high 126 penalty minutes...Practiced with Bridgeport at the completion of the season. 

2007-08:
Scored 22 points (5g/17a) with a plus-5 rating and 101 penalty minutes in 61 games during his second WHL season with Moose Jaw...Notched one assist in six postseason games during his first WHL playoff action...Named the Warriors Scholastic Player of the Year and Humanitarian of the Year. 

2006-07:
Netted three assists in 22 games as a rookie with Moose Jaw... Was Moose Jaw’s ninth-round selection, 162nd overall, in the 2005 WHL Bantam Draft.

INTERNATIONAL:
Won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Saskatoon and Regina. Led the team with a plus-9 rating....Won a gold medal with Team Canada at the Under-18 World Junior Championship in the Czech Republic...Won a silver medal with Team Manitoba at the 2007 Canada Winter Games.

NHL PLAYOFFS:
2013: Made his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut, recording one assist in six games during the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against Pittsburgh.
