Frans Nielsen The Danish forward had two points - a goal and an assist - in Saturday night's 3-2 shootout win in Montreal. His second period goal was his 14th of the season, setting a new career high, and it gave the Islanders a 2-1 lead. He also scored in the shootout - not using the "Danish backhad of judgement", but instead going five-hole on Peter Budaj. Nielsen is a shootout specialist for sure. He is 22 of 37 (59.5%) in career shootout attempts and the top SO man in history. He has scored on six of his 10 attempts this season. |
Phil Kessel Headed into Monday night's game in Boston, the Maple Leafs leading scorer is fourth in the league in points with 75 and third in goals with 35, which is one short of his career high. He's certainly had hot hands this year and his point total as of Monday is his career best with 10 games left to play. The Leafs are in 12th place in the East with 72 points, and like the Islanders, not out of the playoffs. With four points in the last four games, Kessel could be heating up again to lead the Leafs to the playoffs for the first time since 2003-04. |

![]() Hot d-men: Eric Hornick notes in the Skinny that in the last four games, at least one defenseman earned a point on each goal (11 goals total). Mark Streit leads all Islanders defensemen with 40 points (6g/34a). He's fourth on the team in scoring.
Top 10: On Monday, John Tavares was 10th in scoring in the NHL with 70 points. This season he has 40 of his 70 points on home ice. Showing his stuff: JT is on the verge of making more Islanders history. With one more point, he will be one of only three players in Islanders history have recorded at least 71 points at age 21 or younger. All have banners hanging at the Coliseum: Mike Bossy, Bryan Trottier and Denis Potvin. (Hornick) |
![]() Clarke MacArthur scored the game-winner at 2:06 of overtime as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Islanders 4-3 on Jan. 24 at Nassau Coliseum. PA Parenteau scored an unassisted goal with 13 seconds remaining to force OT while John Tavares and Josh Bailey rounded out the scoring for the Isles. Mikhail Grabovski led the Leafs with a goal and three assists while Jake Gardiner and MacArthur accounted for the other Toronto goals.

![]() Jack Capuano on the Isles OT win in Montreal on Saturday: "In particular, some of those guys they blocked shots, they paid the price, they sacrificed, they joined when they had to join so we could get some odd-man rushes. Overall it was a good team effort...It's a good win when you win in this building.”
