On Thursday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs bounced back after a 7-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday to return the favor in an 8-1 win over the Islanders at the Air Canada Centre.

Eight different Maple Leafs players scored goals in the lopsided game against the Islanders, who played for the second night in a row. Matt Stajan led the way with a goal and two assists for Toronto and Andrew Raycroft earned his first win of the season, stopping 30 shots. Mats Sundin also became the Leafs' all-time leading point-getter and goal scorer with his one goal. Wade Dubielewicz played in his first game of the season and faced 42 shots.

"They played real well and with a lot of emotion," said Bill Guerin. "And the fact is we didn't. That wasn't acceptable, but we'll be back at it on Saturday."

Toronto improves to 2-2-1 on the season, while the Islanders drop to 3-2-0 on the year.

"There are no excuses to be made," said Mike Comrie.  "We need to work a lot harder as a group."

The Maple Leafs took a 1-0 lead at 2:51 of the first period on a power play goal. Pavel Kubina's shot from the point was deflected by Nik Antropov past Dubielewicz.

Ian White made it 2-0 with a slapshot off right off of an offensive draw with 7:49 gone by in the first period.

The Islanders cut the lead to 2-1 on a power play goal of their own. Bruno Gervais' wrister from the point was perfectly deflected by Fedotenko with 6:17 left in the first period. The goal was initially credited to Gervais, but the young defenseman pointed emphatically at his teammate to give him credit. Mike Comrie picked up the other assist.

In the second period, the Leafs took a 5-1 lead on goals by Thomas Kaberle, Stajan and Alex Steen, while shorthanded.

The third period saw the Leafs tack on three more goals, with Andy Wozniewski, Sundin and Simon Gamache finding the back of the net.

The Islanders travel to Philadelphia to take on the Flyers, Saturday night at 7 pm.
